The Pueblo have mined for turquoise in the hills as early as the 900s AD. During the 16th and 17th centuries, the colonizing Spanish used Pueblo slave labor to mine turquoise, as well as lead and silver. In 1680, the Pueblo revolted against the Spanish and temporarily drove them from Santa Fe de Nuevo México ; with the exception of a few sporadic mining operations, wide-scale mining would not occur again until the late 1800s. Bonanza City is a ghost town, located 13 miles (21 km) southwest of Santa Fe in Santa Fe County, New Mexico, United States. Later in the 20th century, The Bonanza Creek Movie Ranch, which contains a movie set depicting a late 19th century mining town, was built near the ruins of Bonanza City.
Graves of the Cartwrights and cook Hop Sing were later added, following the deaths of Dan Blocker (1972), Victor Sen Yung (1980), Lorne Greene (1987), and Michael Landon (1991). The house contained a less-than-realistic carved figure of Ben Cartwright sitting at his desk, and of Hop Sing working in the kitchen. The only parts of the house that actually existed were the living room, dining room, kitchen, and office.

By 1881, Bonanza City featured a post office, hotel, general store, and smelter. The Ponderosa Ranch was a theme park based on the television western Bonanza, which housed the land, timber and livestock-rich Cartwright family. The amusement park operated in Incline Village, Nevada, near Lake Tahoe, from 1968 until 2004. Portions of the last five seasons of the TV series and three television films were also filmed at that location. Later that year, two miners found gold and silver there.
The Ponderosa experience
At that time most of the shows broadcast in syndication featured the Adam Cartwright character. His picture was in the group painting on the sign promoting the park at the entrance. When the park folded in autumn 2004 Pernell Roberts was still alive, so no Adam grave marker was added.
Because the movies showcased the next generation of Cartwrights, they began circa 1905. The Ponderosa park expanded beyond the buggy era to include an exhibit featuring antique cars. It was a fledgling endeavor as tourists wanted to see horses flanked by Cartwright saddles. Mr Smotrich told the urban regeneration event “there’s a business plan set by the most professional people there is and is on President Trump’s table and how this thing turns into a real estate bonanza. I’m not kidding; it pays off”.
Ranch History
Israel has built about 160 settlements housing 700,000 Jews since it occupied the West Bank and East Jerusalem – land Palestinians want, along with Gaza, for a hoped-for future state – during the 1967 Middle East war. An estimated 3.3 million Palestinians live alongside them. The idea would involve the forced displacement of Palestinians in the territory and be in violation of international law. Though the population is speculated to have reached 2000, the only recorded number is 200 residents in 1884. Occasionally, this wasn’t the case, as in the opening sequence or when Bonanza shot two-part 1966 episode “The Pursued” at Anchor Ranch, Lone Pine, California.
Where Bonanza was filmed
The stairs led nowhere, as the “bedrooms” were actually located on a sound stage in Hollywood. These include Silverado and A Million Ways to Die in the West. The TV show Kid Nation was also filmed there in 2007. They tried to rebuild a pretend version of Bonanza City.
Depending on the time of day, a park visit could include breakfast. Lunch, including a Bonanza City “Hoss Burger”, could also be purchased. Estimates are that more than three million of these were sold during the park’s existence. On October 21, 2021, the movie Rust was being filmed at Bonanza. It is scheduled to restart in January 2023, but not in New Mexico.
