IHK Installs High level C-arm for Advanced Surgical Procedures

Pacific Diagnostics has completed installation of an Advanced Siemens Healthineers Cios Alpha C-arm at International Hospital Kampala.

This cutting edge multidisciplinary mobile C-arms will increase accuracy and precision for complex surgical procedures.

The Siemens Healthineers Cios Alpha is the gold standard for image guided surgery with mobile C-arms and is now available in Uganda at IHK.

Gastroenterology Using C-arm

The C-arm is ideal for performing non invasive procedures of the digestive system without the need for open surgery. The Cios Alpha is optimally suited for the following procedures:

Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP)

Combination of endoscopy and fluoroscopy to diagnose and treat certain problems of the biliary or pancreatic ductal systems.

Percutaneous transhepatic cholangiography (PTHC or PTC)

Fluoroscopic test used to identify obstructions either in the liver or bile ducts that slow or stop the flow of bile from the liver to the digestive system.

Stenting

Insertion of stents in part of the gastrointestinal tract (e.g. in the esophagus).

Ortho Trauma

Equally suited to both complex ortho and trauma cases and to complex spine surgery, Cios Alpha’s excellent HD images enable fine detail visualization.

The Cios Alpha C-arm is ideally suited for:

Osteosynthesis

Limb fracture

Pelvic surgery

Osteotomy

Prosthesis surgery

Trauma surgery

Spine surgery

Tumor surgery

Urology

Urologic interventions require visualization of the entire urologic system (kidney, ureter, bladder).

X-ray images are the base to make decisions during urologic interventions. Urologists need clear and crisp images to get a good visualization of relevant urologic anatomy, catheters, stents and guide-wires being used during interventions.

The Cios Alpha enables high image quality and good visualizations that lead effective treatments and therefore optimizes clinical outcomes. This translates into faster and safer examinations with exceptional image at the right dose.

The Cios Alpha is optimally suited for the following Urology procedures :

Uterorescopy (URS)

Visual inspection of the interior of the ureter and kidney with an endoscope and under fluoroscopic control for biopsy, removal or crushing of stones.

Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy (PCNL)

Surgical procedure to remove stones from the kidney through a small skin incision (percutaneous) with help of endoscopes and fluoroscopy.

Retrograde Pyelography

Radiography of the ureters and kidneys using contrast medium instilled into the ureter in a retrograde fashion through a catheter.

Vascular Surgery

As people age, vascular diseases are very common. Vascular surgery treats diseases of the vascular system including the arteries, veins and lymphatic circulation. These are managed by medical therapy, minimally-invasive catheter procedures, and surgical reconstruction which can be performed using the Cios Alpha mobile C-arm.

The Cios Alpha is ideal for the following vascular procedures:

Endarterectomy

Surgical removal of plaque from an artery.

Peripheral Angioplasty & Stenting

Angioplasty consists of inflating a small balloon inside a narrowed blood vessel. Stenting consist of inserting a stent to support artery walls.

Carotid Angioplasty & Stenting

Surgical procedure to remove stones from the kidney through a small skin incision (percutaneous) with help of endoscopes and fluoroscopy.

Vascular bypass

Treatment of narrowed arteries by directly creating a detour, or bypass, around a section of the artery that is blocked.

Endovascular Aortic Repair (EVAR) with standard stent grafts

Minimally invasive placement of a standard stent graft in an aneurysm

Cardiac Surgery

The Cios Alpha can be used for performing cardiac procedures to rectify Arrhythmia problems. Arrhythmia is problems with the rate or rhythm of the heartbeat. During an arrhythmia the heart may beat too fast, too slow or with an irregular rhythm, which may cause the heart to not pump enough blood to the body.

Arrhythmia may be treated using fluoroscopic images from the Cios Alpha C-arm through the following procedures:

Device implantation

Implantation of pacemakers and intra-cardiac defibrillators.

Cardiac electrophysiology

Diagnosis and treatment of heart rhythm disorders.
